Tommy Downs, 72, of Pampa, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026 at his home.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Kris Humphrey, senior pastor at Trinity Fellowship, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Tommy was born on August 29, 1953 in Pampa to Shellie Alton Downs and Hattie Ruth Cook Downs. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1972. Tommy started working as a dishwasher at the Coronado Inn when he was 13 years old. After high school, he went to work for Hawkins-Eddins Communications then later for Whites Auto. When Tommy was 20 years old, he went to work for Halliburton and continued working there for 42 years. After his retirement from Halliburton, Tommy and Denise bought the family farm from Denise’s grandmother and began raising cattle.
Tommy married the love of his life, Denise Anne Parker, on December 28, 1973 in Lefors. Together they had three children and built a legacy of love and hard work. Tommy worked tirelessly for many years to provide for his family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Tommy also enjoyed camping, which they did often. He was an avid softball player and played well into his 50’s. Tommy could hit the catcher’s mitt from across the field. However, Tommy’s favorite thing to do was spend time with his grandchildren. He attended every event from games to barrel races. Tommy loved his family immensely and will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shellie and Hattie Downs; his sister, Sheila Broadbent; and his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Anne Parker.
He is survived his wife of 52 years, Denise Downs of the home; three children, Carily Downs Epps and husband Chris of Pampa, Dillon Thomas Downs and partner Denise Allen of Pampa, and Angie Elizabeth Downs of Canyon; grandchildren, Maggie Arreola and husband Azden of Amarillo Hallie Jo Hernandez of Pampa, Wylie Bruce Shafer and Rylan Matthew Shafer of Amarillo, and bonus granddaughter, Jaden Allen of Pampa; great-grandson, Krue Arreola; two sisters, Shirley Doke Campbell and husband Leonard of Valrico, Florida and Jean Downs-Miller of Pampa; his father-in-law, Eddie Parker; and many nieces and nephews.
