Tonya Davis Abbott Whipkey, 65, of McLean and originally from Amarillo, passed away, April 29, 2021 in McLean with her family by her side.
Cremation memorial graveside services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean with Rev. Thacker Haynes, pastor of McLean-Heald United Methodist Churches, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Tonya was born on July 2, 1955 in Amarillo to Lyda and Bobby Davis. She grew up and attended school and worked in food service in Amarillo. She later moved to Erick, Oklahoma where she entered the nursing profession, a career that she excelled in helping people. After several years in Erick, Tonya returned to the Panhandle and went to work for the Darsey Ranch and wore many hats including ranch hand, fabulous cook, caregiver to Lyda and Les, mom to Whitney and Jessica, and the #1 hand on the The Darsey Chuckwagon winning team. She was also famous for her fried pies! Tonya will be remembered as a woman who loved and was loved by many people over her 65 years, and she will be missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Brandy Abbott; a son, Kerry James Abbott; a niece, Tiffany Nicole Davis; two uncles, JB Davis and Jack Ruth; two aunts, Juanita Davis and Delores Ruth; stepfather, Les Darsey; and by a stepbrother, Mike Darsey.
Her survivors include her son, Andy Abbott and wife Trudy of Pleasanton; two sisters, Trudy Collins of McLean, and Robbie Weldon and husband Vance of Carthage; two brothers, Joe Bob Davis and Clayton Davis, both of McLean; six nieces, Kathy Whitaker of Amarillo, Candace Barnes of Carthage, Katie Davis of Lubbock, Cheyenne Smith of Amarillo, Whitney Davis of McLean, and Jessica Davis of Pampa; six nephews, Bobby King of Kemah, Dustin Davis and wife Erica of Amarillo, Cameron Davis and Cody Davis, both of Lubbock, Brad Barnes and Chase Barnes, both of Carthage; an aunt, Kathryn Wright of McLean; an uncle, John Wright and wife Billie of Russellville, Arkansas; and great nieces and nephews, Tait, Ophelia, Raynee, Layne, Rylan, Adelynn, Hesston, Mia, Charli Jo, Lilly, Cannon, Cash, and Case; and by cousins, and other extended family.
