Vance Dwayne Ketcherside, 86, of Pampa, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025 in Pampa.
Services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor David House, Vance’s son-in-law, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Vance was born on March 1, 1939 in Coalgate, Oklahoma to George Ketcherside and Bertha Farquhar Ketcherside. He was raised in and attended school in Kiowa until high school when he moved to Guymon. Vance graduated from Guymon high school in 1957. After graduation, he moved to Amarillo where he enrolled in vocational school and learned the art of appliance repair. In 1957, he married Alice Graham and together they were blessed with six children. Vance and Alice would later part ways.
Vance found love again when he met Barbara while working as an appliance repair technician for Sears. They were married on December 6, 1991 and he gained two more daughters from this union. Vance moved to Pampa where he became a co-owner of Western Auto Appliance Store. He continued working for Sears for 40 years before retiring, but he never really stopped working. Vance enjoyed working on all sorts of appliances and getting to visit with his customers.
Vance was a quiet man with a big heart. He had a never-ending kind of patience that was evident in the time he took to make sure a job was done just right and in the way he raised his children. Vance loved watching baseball, especially the Texas Rangers. He was incredibly supportive of his grandchildren and did his best to attend every sporting event they were a part of. Vance also enjoyed classic cars and collecting antique radios. In his younger years, he raced dirt bikes and rode motorcycles. Vance was honest and trustworthy; he worked hard and loved fiercely. He was incredibly good natured. Vance loved spending time with family and making memories with his grandchildren. He passed on a legacy of hard work and love that won’t be forgotten.
Vance was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ketcherside of the home; eight children, Gary Ketcherside and wife Lorna, Davena House and husband David, Danny Ketcherside, Miranda Woods and husband Billy all of Amarillo, Tory Ketcherside and wife Brittani of Marlinton, West Virginia, Joey Ketcherside and wife Charissa of Columbia, South Carolina, Theresa Noble and husband Butch of Pampa, and Angie Watkins and husband Freddy of Saginaw; 20 grandchildren, Jennifer Splawn and husband Jimmy, Gary Ketcherside, Jr. and wife Kris, Austin Ketcherside, Lacie McGary and husband Matt, Traycee Persons and husband Tolk, Tiffany Coto and Alex, Ann Marie Luna and husband Aaron, Beth Slover, Becca Whittington and husband Ryan, Raia Ketcherside, India Hernandez and husband Jacob, Portland King, Gracie King, Max Ketcherside, Will Ketcherside, Eden Ketcherside, Aleah Noble and Randy Williams, Allison Noble and Aaron Abeita, Dylan Watkins, and Ava Watkins; 16 great-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Alice Ketcherside; a host of cousins; and numerous friends.
