Vivian Lois Kirbie Dykes, 90, of Pampa, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025 in McLean with her family by her side.
Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, May 12, 2025 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Norman Rushing, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, May 11, 2025 from 4:00-5:30 PM.
Vivian was born February 8, 1935 in Pampa to John and Naomi Kirbie. She attended Pampa schools and got married at the age of 17 so she was unable to finish high school. Vivian was in her mid-40’s when she completed her GED and she was very proud of this accomplishment. She married Jesse Dykes August 30, 1952 in Clovis, New Mexico. They were married 64 years before Jesse passed away March 15, 2016.
Vivian dedicated her time to being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She was involved in many organizations such as the Pampa Civic Culture Club, Top of Texas Square/Round Dance Association where she held several offices, and the Red Hat Society. Vivian was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church, Senior Adult Choir, and Pampa Senior Citizens. Vivian was a social butterfly and while she would often talk your ear off.
Vivian had many hobbies to go along all the organizations she was involved in. She was a wonderful seamstress and made dresses and suits for her daughter growing up. She liked to tend to her flower garden and working in her yard. She enjoyed singing, oil painting, and shopping. While Jesse was alive, they loved traveling to the Ozarks where they attended country music shows in Branson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jesse Dykes; and two brothers, Bill Kirbie and Burl Kirbie.
Survivors include her daughter, Dana Phillips and husband Lonnie of Lake City, Florida; sister, Shirley Chapman and husband Glenn of Clyde; one grandson, Casey Ashton Phillips and wife Danielle of Chesapeake, Virginia; nephew, Malcolm Crawford of Abilene; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to Central Baptist Church towards the Building Fund, 513 E Francis Ave, Pampa, Texas, 79065.
