Pampa

William “Danny” Ward, 71, of Pampa, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023, in Pampa.

Danny was born on July 4, 1952, in Vernon, Texas to Robert William and Annie Irene Link Ward. He grew up in Vernon and lived in several towns in the area as a child. After school, Danny worked on oil rigs in Wichita Falls. He met Kathy Ward as a young man, and the two were married in 1975. The couple had two sons together, before she preceded him in death two years later in 1977.

A few years later, Danny and his sons moved to Amarillo. There he managed and maintained several rental properties. In the mid-1980s, Danny met Esther Cortez, when she rented one of his properties. He intentionally put her in the house next to his office to get to know her. The two eventually married in 1987 and stayed in Amarillo for the next 14 years. In 2001, they moved to south Texas to be with and to take care of Esther’s mother.

Outside of his career as a property manager, Danny had several side jobs including home remodeling, electrical work, roofing, fencing, and much more. He was a master carpenter and a jack of all trades. Danny also enjoyed fishing, poker, and gambling at the casinos. He loved his family and was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

Danny is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Esther Ward of the home; six children, Christopher Ward, Nathan Ward, Josh Ward, JJ Cortez, Leon Garza, and Angela Garza; 14 grandchildren; and numerous brothers, sisters, and extended family members.
