Ronnie was born on May 28, 1942, in Littlefield, Texas to Lorena and Noyle Wood. As a young boy his family moved to Friona where he would grow up and graduate high school playing every sport possible, while also working on his family farm. While in Friona, he would meet his soulmate, Suzanne Taylor, through her cousins. Following his graduation from high school, he enrolled at Texas Tech University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. While at Tech, he was a Saddle Tramp and a member of the Texas Tech National Meat Judging team. On August 29, 1964, he married Suzanne and they shared the next 62 years together.
Ronnie would return to college and receive his master’s in education from Texas A&M University. Ronnie worked as a county extension agent for nearly 10 years in both Potter and Ochiltree Counties. In 1980, Ronnie and Suzanne moved to Pampa where they have resided since. Following his career working for the state, he started a new venture when he became an ICEE owner and representative. A business endeavor that extended over 12 years and included a territory that spanned Kansas down to Texas. Afterwards, Ronnie would enter the insurance business where he served countless clients and friends.
Ronnie was a faithful man who loved his Lord and church and served as a deacon at both First Baptist Church in Perryton and First Baptist Church in Pampa. He played men's league basketball in Perryton and softball in Pampa. Other than his family, his true passion was being outdoors, playing golf, being in Colorado fishing, or drinking coffee with his friends at the donut shop or car lot.
He was a civic minded man who chaired the Tri-State Seniors Golf Committee, served as a former president of the Kiwanis Club, and was a member of the Pampa Chamber of Commerce Gold Coats. Ronnie was a supportive husband and father who would travel great distances to be at every one of his wife’s, children’s and grandchildren’s school, church and sporting events. He loved every Texas Tech sport imaginable and continued to be a lifelong season ticket holder. He had a passion for helping others in the community. He will be remembered as a kind, giving, and charitable man who will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
